Why might my child need OT (occupational therapy)?

Writer's picture: Allie NewtonAllie Newton

Pediatric occupational therapy is a service focused to help children be able to complete daily activities in their lives aka their occupations. Well what are a child’s occupations?

  • Playing

  • Sleeping

  • Getting Dressed

  • Eating

  • Going to the Bathroom

  • Learning

  • Socializing

OT's assess each activity that a child might be struggling with, break down the tasks, then work on skills to be able to complete the activities in a way that makes sense for the child.

Does your child have difficulties with any of the following?

  • Bathing avoidance/poor hygiene

  • Clumsiness

  • Completing homework

  • Doing chores

  • Following instructions

  • Getting dressed or wearing clothes

  • Keeping endurance during play

  • Low frustration tolerance

  • Poor attention

  • Picky eating

  • Sitting still

  • Sleeping/falling asleep

  • Toileting

  • Understanding social skills

If so, they might benefit from skilled occupational therapy services.
